In addition many items of new plant were installed.

Construction of the new Mechanical Workshop building at Caroline Hill commenced in October and progress was satisfactory, enabling approximately 50% of the building to be occupied and the old No. 2 Workshop Building to be demolished to make way for the construction of the remainder of the new building. The task of operating the workshops whilst building work is in progress on the same site was, however, a most difficult one.

191. There was no material change in the motor vehicle position and the total number of Government vehicles in service at the end of the year was 853 against an authorized establishment...
