Page 114. The removal of squatters from certain sites which drained into nullahs flowing through the built-up areas effectively decreased the nuisance from some of the nullahs. In an attempt to decrease nuisance from the main Kai Tak nullah, a further length of intercepting sewer was laid to convey sewage to the present outfall of the nullah. The execution of major works to cure this trouble must await a decision on the proposals for the extension of Kai Tak airport.
Page 115. Deposits of sand in the nullahs continued to be polluted for similar reasons, and much was not suitable for sale by the Sand Monopoly. This organization nevertheless continued to obtain considerable quantities of useable sand from the nullahs.
Page 116. The diversion of a large storm-water culvert and a foul sewer from Arsenal Yard, in order to clear the site of the New Police Headquarters, was completed in May.
Page 117. Guniting repairs to the reinforced concrete decking of nullahs in Kowloon were commenced. Examination revealed that many such structures were in poor condition owing to the deterioration of the concrete and exposure of the reinforcement, due to some extent to attack by sewage gas and sea-water.
Page 118. Storm-water drainage works for the North Point Reclamation were completed, and further progress was made with similar works necessary for the Causeway Bay Reclamation.
Page 119. A streamcourse in Deep Water Bay was trained for a length of 850 feet, and the surrounding swamp area was filled.
Page 120. Main storm-water drainage works were carried out in connection with the reconstruction of Queen's Road from Murray Road to Arsenal Street.
Page 121. A portion of the open nullah in Sing Wo Road between Wong Nei Cheong Road and Tsoi Tak Street was culverted, thus providing considerably more space for traffic, etc., in this densely built-up area. Similar works were carried out to the Sookunpoo Nullah near the French Hospital, enabling a better access to the Ho Tung Girls' School to be formed.
