CONTOUR SURVEYS AND LEVELLING.

34. In Hong Kong an area of 24 acres, Chai Wan Cemetery Extension, was contoured and plotted. Scale 1/600, Vertical interval 10 ft. Six building sites on Repulse Bay Road with a total area of 13 acres were also contoured.

Contour Surveys of the site of the proposed Leper Colony on Lamma Island (34 acres) and Kowloon Walled City (10½ acres) were made and plotted. Scale 1/600, Vertical interval 10 feet in each case.

Contour Surveys of sand beaches and areas adjacent were made at Ma Wan Island, Fa Ping, Lantau, Cheung Chau Island (west coast), Tai Long Lantau, North Soku Island and Sha Lo Wan Lantau. Total area 153 acres:

These surveys were plotted to a scale of 1/2,400 with vertical intervals in metres varying between 1 to 5 and 10 metres.

During the year seventy-seven Bench Marks in Hong Kong and five in Kowloon and New Kowloon, which owing to theft had been removed, were reinstated. These reinstated Bench Marks were revalued by double levelling.

The new type Staple Bench Mark at present in use is proving satisfactory.
