Improvements to Buildings:-The principal improvements carried out under this heading were as follows:--Police Training School-concrete floor to garage and arms grill, Green Island Depot-partitions to office, Kowloon Hospital-burglar proof guards, teak partition in "C C" Block, enclosed verandah to Medical Officers' Quarters and alterations to sinks and fittings for sunblinds, Yaumati School-entrance gate to playground and the construction of dark room, Royal Observatory-extension to thermometer shed and geysers to quarters and alterations to offices, Kowloon Mortuary-concrete ramp and entrance, Kowloon Junior School-covered way, Green Island Quarters-alterations to kitchen, Yaumati Police Station-door across corridor.

Electrical improvements and additions were carried out in six buildings.

69. Roads and Bridges (Maintenance and Improvements):-The surfaces of approximately fifty-three miles of roads were maintained in a satisfactory manner. The additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year are:
