NEW KOWLOON.

78. Maintenance of Buildings.-Government Buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to seven buildings. Major repairs included:-Lai Chi Kok Prison-alterations to Hot Water System, Kowloon City Police Station-alterations to Charge Room, Cheung Sha Wan Market-renewal of matsheds.

80. Roads and Bridges (Maintenance and Improvements).-The surfaces of approximately 83 miles of roads were maintained in a satisfactory condition.

The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year:
