55. Stanley. From 7th May to 14th June and from 7th November to 31st December the hours of supply were restricted as follows on account of water shortage:--7th May to 10th May, 14 hours (6 A.M.-8 P.M.) 11th May to 14th June, 7 hours (6-10 A.M. and 4-7 P.M.) 7th November to 31st December, 10 hours (6-11 A.M. and 4-9 P.M.) 56. Water Account (Meters, etc.).-The number of meters examined and repaired during the year was 2,046. 28 meters were tested in accordance with Regulation 9 of the Water Works Regulations.

During the year Government decided to abolish the Rider Mains, as a means of conserving the supply, and to introduce universal meterage, with the option of a free street fountain supply. As a concession, it was decided to fix, free of charge, all meters applied for between 18th August and 31st October (including those applied for prior to 18th August but not fixed by that date). 5,554 such applications were received, but owing to a shortage of meters, only 2,286 had been fixed by the end of the year.

When all applications have been dealt with, practically every house within the Rider Main Districts will be metered.

The number of meters in use on the island at the close of the year was:
