Constables

56. There was a satisfactory response to the recruiting drive which was maintained throughout the year.

57. During the year 8,123 applicants for the post of Constable were interviewed and tested. Of this number only 496 were accepted as recruits and 103 who had applied in the previous year were also taken on strength. Total enlistment was therefore 599. There were 357 applications under process at the end of the year.

58. 527 recruit constables completed their training during the year and 295 were still under training on 31st March, 1969.

Women Constables

59. Out of 460 applicants 28 were accepted as recruits during the year and 19 who had applied during the previous year were also accepted. Total enlistments for the year therefore amounted to 47. There were 91 applicants under consideration at the end of the year.

60. 55 women constables completed their training during the year and passed out from the Training School. There were 29 still under training on 31st March, 1969.

Marine Constables

61. 451 applications for Marine Constable were received and 52 were accepted. 29 who had applied during the previous year were also taken on strength. Total enlistment was therefore 81 and all but 14 completed their training and passed out of Training School before 31st March, 1969.

Launch Mechanics

62. 490 applications for the post of Launch Mechanic were received and 38 were accepted. One who had applied during the previous year was also accepted. Total enlistment was therefore 39. 21 completed their training and passed out of Training School during the year and 16 were still under training on 31st March, 1969. The remaining two resigned during training.

Recruiting Standards

63. The recruiting standards required for Inspectors and Police Constables, both male and female, are shown in Appendix 10.
