Transport

168. This Section is controlled by a Senior Inspector supported by two junior officers. It is responsible for the daily vehicle state, the deployment and maintenance of vehicles throughout the Force and the supervision of the Police Driving School. The Force Vehicle Establish- ment is:

3 Command vehicles,

51 Medium General Purpose vehicles,

16 Light vans,

236 Landrovers,

2 Station wagons,

2 Estate cars,

36 Saloon cars,

169. The increase in the establishment over the preceding year was the result of additional vehicles provided for and the expansion of the District Emergency Force structure.

170. During the three months in 1967 when the Force was in D.E.F. almost 85% of the Fleet ran 24 hours a day without suffering break- down. Credit for this goes largely to the Government Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and his staff for the efficient manner in which the transport was maintained by them.

171. During the year vehicles travelled 6,192,601 miles and were involved in 260 accidents, giving an average of 23,818 miles per accident compared with the previous year figure of 24,301 miles per accident.

172. The Police Driving School situated at the Police Training Contingent, Fanling, was closed for six months during the disturbances.
