Deportation and Police Supervision Section

131. During the year two persons appeared before the Deportation and Detention Advisory Tribunal established under the Emergency (Deportation and Detention) Regulations and both were recommended for deportation. In all 42 aliens were deported.

132. 160 new Police Supervision Orders were issued during the year, a decrease of 91 compared with the previous year. This brought to 11,043 the total number of Orders issued since 1956 when the system was first introduced. Of the current total of 766 Supervisees 79 are ex-convicts. This Section maintains contacts with voluntary agencies interested in discharged prisoners, and at the end of the year 6 Super- visees were under the care of the Hong Kong Discharged Prisoners Aid Society.

Drug Disposal Unit

133. The Drug Disposal Unit destroyed 8,759 items compared with 13,494 in the previous year. These included 55 lbs. of opium, 42 lbs of heroin and 142 lbs. of barbitone in various small quantities. 7,473 lbs. of raw opium, 298.5 lbs. of morphine and 635.5 lbs. of morphine hydrochloride were sold to a bona-fide pharmaceutical company in the United Kingdom by arrangements made through the Crown Agents.

AIDS TO INVESTIGATION SECTIONS

Forensic Laboratory

134. The Department of Forensic Pathology consists of a main laboratory in Police Headquarters and another laboratory in Mong Kok Police Station, Kowloon. It deals mainly with medico-legal work in close association with the Police Force. There are three Pathologists who are assisted by a small staff.
