Prevention of Crime Office

154. This office consists of the Deportation, Police Supervision and Vetting Sections and the Interpol Sub-Bureau.

155. During the year 78 cases involving 95 persons were referred to the Deportation and Detention Advisory Tribunal established under the Emergency (Deportation and Detention) Regulations, 1962. At the end of the period 6 persons were held pending a decision in their cases.

156. 96 persons, all aliens, were deported.

157. Since the introduction of the Police Supervision Ordinance in 1956, 9,932 supervision orders have been made. Of these, 1,339 are still in force, including 369 new orders issued during the year.

158. The Force continued to co-operate with the Hong Kong Dis- charged Prisoners' Aid Society and other voluntary organizations in their efforts to rehabilitate supervisees after their discharge from prison. At the end of the year there were 40 supervisees under the care of voluntary organizations.

159. 1,921 investigations were made into the character and back- ground of applicants for the Police Force.

160. The Interpol Sub-bureau participated in 47 investigations of an international nature.

Forensic Laboratory

161. Four Forensic Pathologists are seconded from the Medical and Health Department to the Police Laboratory at Police Headquarters. The duties carried out by these highly trained and experienced officers, using the most up-to-date equipment and modern techniques, have proved to be of great value as an aid to police in the prevention and detection of crime.

162. During the year the Principal Forensic Pathologist and his staff carried out examinations at the police laboratory including 2,129 blood groupings, 1,494 various types of exhibits and 329 persons who were either victims or suspects in criminal cases. They also performed 3,808 post-mortem examinations.

163. Throughout the year the Forensic Pathologists have given lectures to police officers and to medical students.
