recruited and 7 NCOs were promoted to Probationary Inspector: 55 overseas and 44 local Probationary Inspectors passed out from the Police Training School during the year. 10 overseas and 13 local officers were still under training at the end of the year.
80. 2 Women Probationary Inspectors also passed out from the School.
81. The recruiting standards and conditions of service for Inspectors are shown at Appendices 3 and 7.
Police Constables
82. In general recruitment was satisfactory.
83. On 1st April, 1963 the male P.C. strength was 526 below establish- ment: on 31st March, 1964 the deficiency had been reduced to 173.
84. 6,735 applicants to join the Force as Constables were interviewed and tested: of these 594 were accepted as recruits, 24 persons who had previously been members of the Force were re-enlisted and 85 who had applied in the previous year were also taken on strength. Total enlist- ments for the year were 703. There were 133 applications under investiga- tions at the end of the year.
85. 648 recruit constables completed their training during the year. 249 were still under training on 31st March, 1964.
86. The recruiting standards and Conditions of Service for Police Constables are shown at Appendices 4 and 6.
87. 154 Women Police Constables were recruited. 118 completed their training and passed out from the School and 36 were still under- going training at the end of the year.
POLICE TRAINING SCHOOL
88. The Hong Kong Police Training School is situated at Wong Chuk Hang near Aberdeen, a rural area on the south side of Hong Kong Island about nine miles from the centre of Victoria.
89. New building has continued throughout the year. Barrack, mess and recreation accommodation for recruit constables has been completed. Work on an assembly hall, Inspectors' Mess and classroom was in progress. The final part of the project which includes staff quarters and an admin- istration block was in an advanced stage of planning by March, 1964. All is expected to be complete in 1967.
