SOCIETIES
262. Under the Societies Ordinance the Commissioner of Police is the Registrar of Societies. On 31st March, 1963 there were 1,264 registered societies and 123 societies exempted from registration under the Societies Ordinance.
263. During the year 70 new societies were registered and 22 societies were granted exemption. 2 societies were refused registration, 20 changed their status by registering as companies and 3 by provisions of other legislation. 8 societies closed down. Applications from 40 were under consideration on 31st March, 1963.
ARMS LICENSING
264. At the end of the year 1,452 arms licences were in issue. 69 weapons and 1,971 rounds of ammunition confiscated by the courts were disposed of during the year.
MISCELLANEOUS LICENCES
265. The Commissioner of Police in addition to being the Licensing Authority under the Arms and Ammunition Ordinance and the Vehicle and Road Traffic Ordinance is the Licensing Authority under certain other ordinances. At the end of the year the number of licences issued under those ordinances were:
