245. The total annual attendance of police officers at the medical clinics was 12,818 as compared with 13,939 last year: of civilians 1,795 as compared with 1,685 and of dependants 62,494 as compared with 66,974. The dental clinics treated 11,670 patients.

246. The annual X-ray survey of the Force and civilian staff showed 73 cases of active tuberculosis as against 45 last year. 8,335 police personnel were X-rayed. 728 members attended the Government chest clinic tuberculosis was found quiescent in 202 cases and arrested in 152. 16 police officers were admitted to hospital for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.

POLICE CONVALESCENT CENTRE-SHING MUN POST

247. The Shing Mun post provides a base for the patrolling of the reservoir and a centre to which N.C.Os. and P.Cs. can be posted for a period of light convalescent duty after treatment in hospital for tuber- culosis. The strength of the post varies from 9 to 12 men.

CHILD HEALTH SERVICES

248. Maternity and child health clinics are held at Arsenal Street in Hong Kong & Cheung Sha Wan in Kowloon. Both centres provided more than 50 clinics during the year and dealt with some 9,000 cases. 68 families were referred to the Family Planning Association.

POLICE CO-OPERATIVES

249. The two Co-operative stores in the married quarters at Arsenal Street and Cheung Sha Wan have had another successful year. These two co-operative societies provide cheaper consumer goods for the married families living in the quarters. At Arsenal Street business amounted to some $230,000; at Cheung Sha Wan $550,000, $7,400 and $15,000 respectively were paid out as dividends.

ENTERTAINMENT

250. Sixteen launch picnics for families and two for school children were organized during the year. The hire of vessels and cost of refresh- ments were met from the Police Welfare Fund.

251. A number of parties were held for children during the Chinese New Year.
