CIVILIAN STAFF

64. Clerical and other duties which do not require police training and experience are carried out by Civilian Staff. Of the total authorized establishment of 1,409 civilian officers, 400 clerical officers are employed in registries and offices throughout the Force. Higher formations have on their establishments Executive Officers, Executive Assistants, Secretary/Stenographers, Confidential

Confidential Assistants and Interpreter/ Translators. The Communications and Transport Branch has an establishment of 38 Radio and Radar Technicians, and the Marine Divi- sion 159 Civilian Launch Engineers and Stokers.

65. A series of Courses were conducted during the year at the Police Training School to provide some outline of Police work for new clerical officers who were to be employed in Report Rooms. These Courses also provided refresher training for officers who had already had some experience in the Force.

66. The special grade of Police Interpreter was introduced from 1st April, 1962. These interpreters will be employed either in Report Rooms or in District and Divisional C.I.D. offices, where they will replace members of the general clerical service previously engaged in interpreting duties. They will be recruited initially from those clerks in the Force who have opted for transfer to the new grade.

FINANCE

67. The authorized annual estimate was $68,096,800 and the actual expenditure was $61,457,247. A breakdown of the actual expenditure for the last three years is shown at Appendix V. Revenue collected in respect of subheads solely under the control of the Police Force amounted to $24,234,884 against an estimate of $21,668,400 as follows:
