given to the members of the Regular and Auxiliary Forces who cheer- fully performed long and exhausting tours of duty. In her farewell message, Her Royal Highness expressed her appreciation of the efficiency and courtesy of the Police Force during her visit to the Colony.
INSPECTION OF THE FORCE
10. His Excellency the Governor, Sir Robert BLACK, G.C.M.G., O.B.E. reviewed the Police Force, both Regular and Auxiliary, on Sunday, 10th December 1961. During the Review which was held at the Government Stadium, His Excellency presented awards to seven Regular and two Auxiliary officers.

11. The following officers were honoured by Her Majesty the Queen during the year:

ESTABLISHMENT AND CHANGES IN SERVICE CONDITIONS
12. The establishment approved at the beginning of the year was 8,352 all ranks. This was an increase over the previous year of 217.
13. There was no change in the service conditions of the Regular Force. The new rank structure and conditions of service for junior officers introduced on 1st January 1961 have now been fully imple- mented and the examinations and other promotion arrangements in- cluded in it are working satisfactorily. To assist the recruitment of junior officers a well-illustrated booklet entitled 'Policing Hong Kong' has been produced with the assistance of the Information Services Department. Copies of this booklet have been sent to the United King- dom and elsewhere in the Commonwealth for distribution.
14. An important change in the conditions of service of the Auxiliary Police Force occurred during the year with the abolition of compulsory part-time service. Service in the Auxiliaries is now entirely voluntary.
