TABLE A

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE FOR RANK AND FILE

1. Police officers recruited in the Colony normally join with the intention of serving up to retirement age. They are not on contract and can resign at any time by giving one month's notice.

2.

There is no fixed probationary period; after one year's satisfactory progress a recruit is advanced to Constable.

3. The normal daily period of duty is eight hours with a break for refreshment; there is one rest day in seven and 24 days leave a year. Personnel engaged on active duties (e.g. beat duty) are additionally granted four hours off duty each week to compensate for parades and training periods attended in their off-duty hours.

4. All ranks with over ten years service are pensionable.

Free meals are not provided on duty.

All married members of the Rank and File are eligible for married quarters. During the

year the total number of married quarters rose to 1,282 at a monthly rent not in excess of one seventh of an officer's basic salary. Bachelors are housed in barrack accommodation.

8. All ranks are equipped with uniform free of charge.

9. No rations are provided.
