circumstances require. In the New Territories the Emergency Unit is provided from the Pakistani Contingent.
THE WOMEN POLICE
210. There are few aspects of Police work in which the Women Police do not actively participate. One of their outstanding contributions during the year was in connexion with a village dispute in the New Territories in which women were deliberately used in a provocative role to deter Police action. For their assistance in the settlement of this dispute, 11 members of the Women Police received commendations both from the Commissioner and from the Colonial Secretary.
THE AUXILIARY POLICE
211. The total strength of the Auxiliary Police Force at the end of the year was 1,871 all ranks.
212. Regular training and instruction was given to the Auxiliaries throughout the year. They were mobilized with the Regular Force for three 16-hour periods for exercises in internal security organization and 1,512 members attended 11-day courses of training at the Police Train- ing School. These courses included for the second time an Advanced Training Course for Inspectors and Non-Commissioned Officers.
213. The Auxiliary Police Force has maintained a high standard of efficiency and continued to provide an essential resource of strength in times of emergency.
STORES, CLOTHING AND ACCOUTREMENTS
214. The supply was adequate for all branches of the Force. Suf- ficient stocks are carried for all emergencies. The standard of tailoring was generally satisfactory.
