122. 327 bicycles were stolen during the year, compared with 328 in the preceding year; 141 or 43% of cases were detected, an increase of 4%.

123. Miscellaneous Simple Larcenies totalled 5,981, a decrease of 928 or 13% compared with the previous year; 3,841 or 64% were detected. Many of the offences under this heading involved items of little value, the value of property stolen totalled $624,368 of which $151,850 was recovered.

Offences involving Fraud

124. Offences included under this heading are Embezzlement, Larceny by Servant, Obtaining by False Pretences and Fraudulent Con- version. Offences recorded totalled 1,308, an increase of 274 compared with the previous year; property stolen totalled $856,253, of which $217,216 has been recovered. Many of these cases necessitated prolonged and involved inquiries by the Commercial Crime section.

Forgery and Counterfeiting Offences

125. 98 offences were recorded under this heading compared with 123 during the preceding year. This figure includes eleven cases of possession of, or forgery of, forged bank-notes or cheques, but no case of counter-feiting was disclosed.

Bribery and Corruption

126. Offences recorded under this heading totalled forty five compared with twenty seven in 1958/59. Thirty were for offering bribes to police and seven for offering bribes to others; four were for soliciting or receiving bribes by police and four for soliciting or receiving bribes by others. A more detailed account of these offences may be found under the heading 'Anti-Corruption and Narcotics Bureau'.

Possession of Arms and/or Ammunition

127. Twenty one cases were recorded during the year, compared with forty during the previous year. Three concerned the possession of loaded firearms used in the course of armed robberies, and the remaining cases were for the possession of arms and ammunition not known to have been used in the commission of a crime.
