Other Serious Offences against Women and Girls
108. Thirteen true cases were recorded under this heading, all clear- ed by arrest and conviction. Six of these offences were carnal knowledge of a girl between 13 and 16 years of age; four were trafficking in women and girls; one abduction; one harbouring and one unlawful detention.

110. Offences recorded in this class decreased by 9% during the year and reductions were recorded under most of the headings; main increases were under breakings, larceny from dwelling and offences involving fraud. 8,815 or 69% were detected compared with 67% in the previous year.
Burglary and Housebreaking
111. 463 offences were recorded under this heading during the year, compared with 429 during the previous year; 213 were detected—a detection rate of 46% compared with 47% during the year 1958/59.
112. The value of the property stolen in all cases totalled $348,048 of which $49,746 has been recovered.
Robbery and Assault with intent to rob
113. Seventy two offences under this heading were recorded during the year, compared with ninety five in the preceding year; forty six were cleared up giving a detection rate of 64% compared with 42% during 1958/59.
114. In six cases the robbers were armed with firearms which were discharged in two cases but caused no injury; five of these were cleared up by arrest and the arms recovered. One gang was responsible for three of these robberies-two at goldsmiths' shops and one of a pay-roll. In the undetected case, two robbers snatched over $400,000 in cash and cheques outside a bank in the crowded Central district and made good their escape after firing two shots from a revolver at their pursuers.
