POLICE SCHOOLS
199. The three schools, which form part of the Hollywood Road, Canton Road and Arsenal Street rank and file married quarters, extended their classes during the year, thus making it possible to provide primary education for 1,627 children; an increase of 177.
200. The number of scholarships available to pupils of the Police Schools increased during the year from two to eight. These scholarships enable the holders to study at Government Middle Schools for a period of five years. Schoolbooks and medical fees are provided from the Police Welfare Fund,
MEDICAL POSTS AND DENTAL CLINICS
201. The two medical posts and the two dental clinics continued to play a very important part in the maintenance of the good health of members of the Force and their families. During the year the Medical Posts attended to 95,196 cases, and the Dental Clinics to 8,108.
POLICE CONVALESCENT CENTRE
202. This centre which is situated at Shing Mun Post continues to aid the recovery of members of the rank and file who have suffered from tuberculosis. Light duties of an appropriate nature are performed by the convalescents until they are fully recovered. Inmates of the post are supplied with extra milk powder and their diet is supplemented from the Welfare Fund.
CHILDREN'S HEALTH
203. A Maternity and Child Health Service for police children up to the age of five years was commenced in April 1958. Sessions are held once weekly in Hong Kong and Kowloon and are well attended. Milk powder and vitamins are provided for needy cases.
WELFARE COMMITTEE
204. Once
Once monthly a meeting of Staff Sergeants is held and conducted by the Social Services Officer. Problems affecting the welfare of the rank and file are discussed. These meetings have proved most helpful.
SPORTS
205. Within the Police Force there is ample scope for sport and active participation is encouraged. There are Police representative
