15. Rat spleen smears.--Twalve thousand eight hundred and 6fty-eight examinations were made of smeare for P. pestis. No positive findings were recorded.
(5) Clinical Pathological Procedures.
16. Urine examinations. -Eleven thousand four hundred and sixty-three routine chemical and microscopic examinations of urine were carried out.
17. Miscellaneous tests.-Eight hundred and seventy-iwn tests of an unclassified nature were made.
[6] Preparation of Vaccine Lymph.
18. Buffalo calves which are exclusively used in the prodİno- tion of this vaccine were difficult to obtain during the past year, However, we were fortunate in obtaining record yields und were able to carry forward sizeable stocka,
(7) Preparation of Vaccines.
1. Cholera Pacoine.-A large quantity received from the Medical Section of the Stores Department proved of considerable value when laboratory supplies were arriving ruther slowly. Local and standard strains have been incorporated in the bulk concentrates prepared during the year.
20. Antirabic vaccine-the total quantity of 64 litres prepared during 1947 is probably a record and was no doulit partly called for as a result of propaganda following the occurrence of two huniau cases of rabies. As sheep were not available in the Colony, goats have been used, and the usual Semple type phenolized brain vaccine prepared and issued in dilutions of 2% and 4%, according to the severity of the case.
