During the year under review, Dr. G.H. CHOA, C.B.E., proceeded on pre-retirement leave on 1st January 1977 to take up his new appointment as the Dean of the now Medical School of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During his tenure of office as Director, the Medical and Health Services in Hong Kong have made considerable progress including the completion of the previous 10-year medical development plan covering the period 1963 to 1972. I am sure all in the Department will join in wishing him good luck and success in his new endeavoura.

The Department received every assistance and co- operation from other Government departments, voluntary agencies, the Press, the radio and television networks.

I also wish to place on record my thanks to the marij′′ public spirited parsons who have devoted so much of their time in order to serve on Statutory Boards, Advisory Committees, Working Parties, and in Voluntary Agencies dealing with the many aspects of medical and health problems in Hong Kong.

Finally, I acknowledge with thanks the contributions of private individual s, and local and overseas organisations who have assisted the Department in providing facilities for those in need of medical care.
