Objects and Reasons.
The "Objects and Reasons" for the Bill were stated as follows—
The Co-operative Societies Ordinance, Chapter 33, does not give a specific right to an officer of a co-operative society to lodge a complaint before the courts where an appropriate official of such a society is unable or otherwise disinclined to produce cash as shown in the books of a society. Such an omission would mean that cases of peculation and fraud could go unpunished.
2. It is considered desirable that the defect should be remedied by the insertion in the Ordinance of an appropriate provision similar to section 64 of the Industrial and Provident Societies Act, 1893 (56 & 57 Vict. C. 39). This is achieved by clause 2.
CRIMINAL PROCEDURE (AMENDMENT) BILL, 1956.
THE ATTORNEY GENERAL moved the Second reading of a Bill intituled "An Ordinance to amend the Criminal Procedure Ordinance, Chapter 221."
THE COLONIAL SECRETARY seconded.
The question was put and agreed to.
The Bill was read a Second time.
Council then went into Committee to consider the Bill clause by clause. Clauses 1 to 4 were agreed to.
Council then resumed.
THE ATTORNEY GENERAL reported that the Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 1956 had passed through Committee without amendment and moved the Third reading.
THE COLONIAL SECRETARY seconded.
The question was put and agreed to.
The Bill was read a Third time and passed.
