FINANCE COMMITTEE.
—————
A meeting of the Finance Committee was held in the Council Chamber, the Colonial Secretary (the Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn, C.M.G.) presiding.
Votes totalling $26,731, contained in message No. 15 from H.E. the Governor, were considered.
HON. MR. W. E. L. SHENTON.―Do we form a quorum?
THE CHAIRMAN.―Mr. Braga has written asking to be excused and Sir Henry Pollock has telephoned asking to be excused. The Orders state that three members shall form a quorum of any Standing Committee. I do not know if there are any items you wish to make any remark or comment upon. Sir Henry Pollock and Mr. Braga both say they agree with all the votes asked for.
Item 143.
HON. MR. KOTEWALL.―I should like to ask with regard to No. 143, Subsidiary Coins, if these new coins will be here before Chinese New Year?
THE CHAIRMAN.―Which coins do you refer to?
HON. MR. KOTEWALL.―Both, copper coins and the 5 cent pieces.
THE CHAIRMAN.―In the absence of the Treasurer, I cannot tell you about the copper coins but the silver ones are due here by the 12th January.
THE CHAIRMAN.―I take it you approve all the votes, and nothing remains but to wish you all a very happy New Year.
All the votes were approved.
