VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF HONGKONG. No. 5 OF 1866.

MONDAY, 12TH MARCH, 1866.

PRESENT:

His Excellency the ACTING GOVERNOR, and all the Members.

The Council met to-day by special Summons,-there being also present His Excellency Governor SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL, Knight, C.B., His Excellency VICE-ADMIRAL KING, C.B., Naval Commander-in-Chief, The Honorable MAJOR GENERAL GUY, C.B., Commanding Her Majesty’s Troops in China and Japan; several Officers, Civil, Naval, and Military, and many of the principal Inhabitants of the Colony, who attended the Meeting.

His Excellency SIR RICHARD GRAVES MACDONNELL then laid on the Table a Commission from Her Most Gracious Majesty The QUEEN, under the Great Seal, of the 14th Day of October, 1865, appointing him to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its Dependencies; and the same having been read, His Excellency took the Oaths of Office under the usual Salutes, and assumed the Administration of the Government of the Colony.

The Council then adjourned.
