VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF HONGKONG. No. 4 OF 1866.

TUESDAY, 6TH MARCH, 1866.

PRESENT:

His Excellency The ACTING GOVERNOR and all the Members, except Mr. WHITTALL, absent from pressure of business.

The Council met to-day by special Summons.

The Minutes of the Council held on the 23rd February, were read and approved.

The Bill for the amendment of the Companies' Ordinance 1865, was read a second time, and the Council went into Committee upon the said Bill.

The Bill having gone through Committee, the ACTING GOVERNOR put the Question,-That this Bill do pass, and that the Title be "An Ordinance to amend 'The Companies' Ordinances 1865.'"

Debate ensued.

Council divided,-

Ayes (7.) No.

Mr. CHOMLEY. Mr. SUTHERLAND.

The AUDITOR GENERAL.

The COLONIAL TREASURER.

The ACTING JUDGE OF THE COURT OF

SUMMARY JURISDICTION.

The ACTING ATTORNEY GENERAL.

The ACTING COLONIAL SECRETARY.

The ACTING CHIEF JUSTICE.

Question put and carried, the Ordinance being numbered "No. 2 of 1866."

The Bill for the optional Registration of existing Companies was read a second time, and committed; and after certain verbal amendments,-

The ACTING GOVERNOR put the Question, -That this Bill do pass, and that the Title be "An Ordinance to enable Companies existing at the Time of the "Commencement of 'The Companies' Ordinance 1865', or thereafter formed "under any other Ordinance or Letters Patent, to register under the said "Ordinance."

Question put and carried, the Ordinance being numbered "No. 3 of 1866." The Council then adjourned sine die.
