VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF HONGKONG. No. 6 OF 1864.
SATURDAY, 16TH APRIL, 1864.
PRESENT:
His Excellency the GOVERNOR and all the Members, except the COLONIAL TREASURER, the AUDITOR GENERAL, and the SURVEYOR GENERAL.
The Council met to-day, pursuant to adjournment.
The Minutes of the Council held on the 29th March, were read and approved.
Read a first time a Bill, entitled "An Ordinance to render admissible in certain cases the Depositions of Witnesses who cannot be produced at the Trial."
Read a first time a Bill, entitled "An Ordinance to enable the Governor to appoint Commissioners for preparing a New Edition of the Ordinances of this Colony."
The Acting Chief Justice presented the Report of the Select Committee on the "Bankruptcy" Bill, suggesting amendments therein; and the same having been received,
The Council went into Committee upon the said Bill, and certain amendments were agreed to.
The Bill, as amended, having been adopted by the Council, the GOVERNOR put the Question,—That the said Bill do pass, and that the Title be "An Ordinance to amend the Law of Debtor and Creditor."
Question put and carried, the Ordinance being numbered "No. 5 of 1864." The Council adjourned to Saturday, the 30th Instant, at Noon.
