His Excellency The Governor,

The Honorable The Attorney General,

The Honorable J. F. Edger, Esquire.

The Council met today pursuant to adjournment.

The Minutes of the last Council were read and approved.

The Attorney General presented a Petition addressed to His Excellency The Governor in the Legislative Council bearing 55 Signatures, and it was moved that the same should be read by the Clerk of Councils.

The paper was accordingly read, and tis prayer that the Government should provide for, as assist in, the establishment of a Sailor's Home in Hongkong ordered to be recorded in the Minutes

Sections 2 and 5 of the Ordinance "for amending the Law of Evidence and Trail by Jury", were discussed and amended; and the Ordinance passed, under the above title, being No. 15 of 1856; and it was ordered to be published in the next Government Gazette.

The Attorney General read a paper prepared by Mr. Wade by which information as to the penalties of the Ordinance just passed was proposed to be given to the Chinese population.
