Minutes of the Legislative Council of Hongkong
for the half year ending 31st December, 1854.

Present:

The Honorable David Jardine, Esqre,
The Honorable J. F. Edger, Esqre.
The Council met today by Special Summons.
The Minutes of the last Council were read and approved.
The Governor laid on the table a Scheme of the Budget of Receipts and Disbursements of the Colony for the year 1855, and after a few general remarks thereon, it was resolved that the same should be confidentially circulated among the Honorable Members.
Consideration was given to the Draft Ordinance to regulate markets, and certain changes being inserted at the end of Section II, it was read a second time and passed under the title of "The Market Ordinance," being No. 2 of 1854, which was ordered to be printed and published in the Government Gazette.
The Acting Attorney General having presented a Draft Ordinance to amend and extend the Ordinance No. 9 of 1845 "to invest the Supreme Court of Hongkong with a Summary Jurisdiction in certain cases," The Governor, with the concurrence of the Council, decided that the proposed Enactment should be sent round to Members for consideration.
It was Resolved, that this Council do adjourn till Friday, the 1st Proximo at One o'clock.
