Minutes of the Legislative Council of Hongkong for the half year ending 31st December, 1851.

25th July, 1851.

Present:

His Excellency The Governor,

The Honorable The Attorney General,

The Honorable J. F. Edger, Esquire.

The Council met today by special summons.

The Minutes of the last Council were read and approved.

Consideration was given to a representation dated the 3rd Instant, from the principal mercantile community at Canton, complaining of certain Provision of Consular ordinance No. 1 of 1844, whereby British subjects resident at the five Consular Ports of China are required and compelled to appear personally and give evidence in the Courts of Justice at Hongkong. - It was Resolved, that the Attorney General should draft an ordinance to obviate the grievance complained of, - to be submitted to Council at its next meeting.
