Minutes of the Legislative Council of Hongkong for the half year ending 31st December, 1847

1st July, 1847.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor,

The Honorable Major General D'Aguilar,

The Honorable the Acting Attorney General.

A special summons had been addressed to the Honorable the Chief Justice on the 30th June.

No meetings of the Council took place on the following established Council days, Thursdays, the 27th May, the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th June, in consequence of special notice to that effect sent round to the Honorable Members.

The Minutes of the last Council were read and approved.

His Excellency the Governor proposed the question whether any alteration was necessary to be made in the provisions of Ordinance No. 5 of 1845, with Regard to the new system of farming opium, as resolved at the meeting of the Executive Council of the 26th June on the opinion of the Acting Attorney general, the Council concluded that there was no need for altering the ordinance in question, as its provisions authorized Regulations to be made from time to time for the management of the Revenue derived from the Retail of opium within the Colony, to be passed by the Legislative Council, in like manner with those of 12th July 1845, sanctioned by Despatch No. 3 of 17th July 1846, from Earl Grey.
