His Excellency John Francis Davis Esquire Her Majesty's Plenipotentiary and Superintendent of the Trade of British Subjects in China having produced a Commission under the Great seal appointing him Governor and Commander in Chief of the Colony of Hongkong and its dependencies and the same having been read by the Honorable Frederick William Adolphus Bruce the Colonial Secretary the Oaths of Office were administered to Mr. Davis by His Excellency Sir Henry Pottinger Bart G.C.B.
