Read letter from Mr. Stanton the Colonial Chaplain of 8th January 1844 applying for sites for a school and college.
Read Despatch No. 113 of 2nd September to Lord Aberdeen.
It was Resolved that the Land Officer should communicate with Mr. Stanton respecting his application.
Read Letter No. 16 of 15th February 1844 from the Land Officer enclosing plans and estimates for the roads and drains of part of the Town of Victoria.
It was Resolved thereon that a sum of 10,000 dollars should be put at the disposal of the Land Officer for the above purposes.
Read Letter No. 17 of 20th February from the Land Officer enclosing estimate of the expense of draining the Wong nei chun and Loo cum poo vallies.
It was resolved thereon that the Land Officer should be authorized to incur the expense stated in his estimate and that he should be specially directed not to allow any embankment to exist by which the fresh water may be impeded in its course to the sea.
Read Letter of 23rd of February from Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Cochrane intimating that he did not possess authority to remove the Naval stores from the ground in the Queen's Road at present occupied by them.
His Excellency the Governor signified his intention of writing a Despatch to Lord Stanley thereon.
Read Letter No. 65 of 25th February from the Honorable the Chief Magistrate respecting the formation and disposal of a Police Force for the Town, and Harbour of Victoria.
It was Resolved that the proposal contained therein should be carried into execution.
Read and approved a draft of a proposed proclamation for the regulation and registration of boats in the Harbour of Victoria.
Read Letter No. 21 of 26th February from the Land Officer and its inclosure a proposal of certain occupiers of Marine Lots at Victoria to construct a sea wall or quay adjacent to their premises.
It was Resolved thereon that the above applicants should be informed that they were at liberty to carry out their plan under the sanction of the Land Officer and on the clear and express understanding that the sea wall or pier built by them would be public property and subject in every respect to the control of government.
Read and approved Despatch No. 14 of 27th February to Lord Stanley and its inclosures 1, 2 & 3.
The Subject of a successor to Captain Haly 41st Madras N. J. as Superintendent of Police (his presence being required with his Regiment) was taken into consideration.
It was Resolved that Captain Bruce of Her Majesty's 18th Regiment should be appointed temporarily to perform the duties of the office.
