Read and approved of Letter No. 44 of 26th January to Major General D'Aguilar respecting certain houses situate within the Military Cantonment.

Read and approved of Letter No. 48 of 26th January to Messrs Jardine Duus and Edwards owners of the above mentioned houses.

Read and approved of Letter No. 45 of 26th January to Captain D'Aguilar Military Secretary to the Honorable Major General D'Aguilar embodying the resolution passed at the last meeting of Council on the subject of a Police Force at Check-chu.

Read and approved of Letter No. 55 of 2nd February to the Honorable Major Caine authorizing him to issue pay to the corporal and six men of the 98th Reqn employed at Check-chu as Policemen.

Read and approved of Letter No. 46 of 26th January to Oswald written in pursuance of the resolution passed at the last meeting of Council.

Read further Petition of Oswald dated 26th January 1844.

Read Letter No. 55 of 1st February 1844 to the Land Officer referring the above Petition for that Officers report.

Read Letter from Land Officer No. 10 of 1st February 1844. It was Resolved thereon that Mr. Oswald should be informed that his further memorial had received due consideration but that his request was inadmissible.

Read and approved of Letter No. 50 of 29th January to Capt. D'Aguilar respecting Post communication with Check Chu and Sywan.

Read and approved of Letter No. 52 of 31st January to Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Cochrane.

Read and approved of Letter No. 56 of 2nd February to Land Officer sanctioning the expenditure of an Estimate of 249 $ for contingent expenses during the past month.

Read Letter No. 13 of 10th February from Land Officer containing accounts and estimates of expenditure for Public works and buildings It was Resolved that the accounts and estimates should be transmitted for the approval of Her Majesty's Government.

Read and approved of Letter No. 57 of 6th February to Dr Satchell the Editor of the Friend of China.

Read Letter dated 7th February from the Editor of Friend of China and its inclosure a letter from Mr. Jones to Dr. Satchell.

Read and approved of letter No. 60 of 8th February 1844 to the Editor of the Friend of China.

Read Letter No. 58 of 7th February to Captain D'Aguilar enclosing a copy of Despatch from Lord Stanley No. 2 of 15 November 1843.

Read and approved of Letter No. 61 of 8th February to the Land Officer referring a Petition of Amoon a Chinese Contractor for the completion of the Queen's Road.

Read and approved of Letter No. 62 of 8th February to Captain D'Aguilar.

Read letter No. 63 of 8th February to Captain D'Aguilar referring the petition of Wong to Major General D'Aguilar.

Read and approved of Letter No. 64 of 9th February to Lieut Pedder the Marine Magistrate authorizing him to decide the dispute between J. Keen the Master of the Ships Emperor and W. Young his mate according to the opinion of Mr. Burgass sent therewith.

Read Letter No. 65 of 9th February to Messrs Caine Gutzlaff and Gordon constituting them a committee to communicate with the Inhabitants of the Wong nei chun and Soo cum poo vallies.

Read Letter No. 66 of 9th February to the Law Officer requesting an Estimate of the Expense of draining the Wong nei chun and Soo cum poo vallies.

Read and approved of Despatch No. 4 of 30th January to Lord Stanley respecting the Police of the Colony.

Read and approved of Despatch No. 5 of 30th January to Lord Stanley respecting Quarters for the Honorable Major General D'Aguilar and a house for Mr. Stanton the Colonial Chaplain.

Read and approved of Despatch No. 9 of 10th February to Lord Stanley respecting Quarters and Offices for the Honorable Major General D'Aguilar and Staff.

Read and approved of Despatch No. 6 of 2nd February to Lord Stanley enclosing the correspondence with Sir Thomas Cochrane respecting the protection of the western part of the Harbour of Victoria.

Read and approved of Despatch No. 7 of 2nd February to Lord Stanley respecting the repair of Church.

The cleansing of the Streets and Drains in the Colony was taken into consideration. It was Resolved that a Military Officer with an Establishment of Two Europeans and a proportionate number of collies should be appointed as Superintendent of Police to assist the Chief Magistrate and to attend specially to the cleanliness of the Colony and that Major Genl. D'Aguilar should be requested to forward the name of some active officer for the approval of His Excellency the Governor.
