Read Letter from the Major General D'Aguilar respecting Quarters and Officers for himself and staff.

Read minute of January 24th 1844 thereon by His Excellency the Governor It was Resolved thereon that the above minute should be adopted and carried into execution.

Read Letter from Colonel Gregory at Check-choo to General D'Aguilar respecting defective state of Police there. It was Resolved thereon that as soon as an Interpreter could be procured an assistant Magistrate and a body of Police should be stationed at Check-choo and that Colonel Gregory should be requested to nominate some proper officer of his corps for the appointment and in the interim Major General D'Aguilar should be applied to, to authorize Col. Gregory to employ a Corporal and six men exclusively in Police duties.

Read Letter from Major General D'Aguilar No. 4 of 22nd January 1844 offering to place such men of the 55th Regiment as might volunteer at the disposal of Government to be employed as Policemen.

Read minute of 24th January 1844 thereon of His Excellency the Governor It was Resolved that the above minute should be adopted and carried into execution.

Read and approved a Letter to Major General D'Aguilar respecting Bedding for certain of the Policemen lately placed under the Honorable the Chief Magistrate.

Read letter of 22nd January from Messrs Jamieson How & Co. respecting the attempted Robbery of their premises and requesting the protection of a ship of war. It was Resolved thereon that the Rear admiral Sir Thomas Cochrane should be requested to anchor a Ship of war in that part of the harbour near Messrs Jamieson's premises for the protection of that quarter of the Colony.

Read Letter from Campbell a British Subject in prison at Macao It was Resolved thereon that Campbell should be informed that his case had received attention and consideration and that no further steps at present could be taken on his behalf.

Read and approved of letters. Patent constituting Mr. Stanton Chaplain of the Colony of Hongkong which were ordered to pass the Seal of the Colony.

Read Despatch No. 1 of 22nd January to Lord Stanley.

Read Despatch No. 2 of 22nd January to Lord Stanley.

Read and approved of Despatch No. 3 of 22nd January to Lord Stanley.

Read Letter No. 29 of 22nd January from the Honorable the Chief Magistrate and its inclosure a Letter from Shum a Chinese Officer to the Honorable the Chief Magistrate forwarding some stolen property found in the Chinese territory.

Read Letter No. 31 of 23rd January and inclosures therein 1 and 2 from the Honorable the Chief Magistrate respecting the death of a Chinese Coolie at Check-chu It was Resolved that no further steps were necessary therein.

Read a Petition from Richard Oswald dated the 23rd January and praying as therein is prayed It was Resolved therein that Richard Oswald should be informed that he is at liberty to relinquish the laws now occupied by him if he does not wish to retain them at their present rates of Rent Read Petition of Robert-Lourie received 24th January 1844 praying that the fine of 200 dollars levied upon certain Chinese found guilty of robbing him should be paid to him in compensation of his losses. It was Resolved thereon that the Chief Magistrate should be ordered to pay the same to the Petitioner.

The Honorable Major General D'Aguilar represented the filthy state of the Drains in the neighbourhood of the Queen's Road It was Resolved that peremptory Instructions to the Land Officer should be issued to proceed without delay in constructing and covering in the Drains of that part of the Colony and that he should be authorized to take Mr. Walker into Government employment.

Read a list of the present occupants of Bazaar Lots produced by the Honorable the Chief Magistrate who recommended that some place should be appropriated for their occupation. The subject was reserved for future consideration and for the opinion of the Land Officer in this matter.

Read an Award produced by the Honorable the Chief Magistrate.

It was Resolved thereon that time should be allowed to Henry to make such application as he might be advised therein.
