Performance Pledge

KMB's firm commitment to the provision of a quality and reliable bus service is reflected in our Performance Pledge made on mechanical reliability and operational capability the two core

competencies in bus operation.

Mechanical reliability is assessed by the average number of trips operated before a bus would experience one mechanical breakdown on the road while passengers are on board. The pledged target is 1350:1.

Operational capability is measured by the ratio of actual to scheduled departure trips travelling in the peak directions within the overall bus network during the morning peak hours, i.e. 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.. The pledged target is 97 per cent.

KMB published its Performance Pledge Report 1994-95 (covering the year ended June 1995) in October 1995. The performance on mechanical reliability was 1685:1 and on operational capability 97.98 per cent. Both of these results exceeded the pledged targets.

As an operator that always aims at achieving the best, the Company will strive to uphold the standard in

the coming year.

Staff Training

During the year, KMB held its second series of Service Enhancement Training Programmes for bus

captains, regulators and assistant regulators . The objective of these programmes is to improve the skills

of our outdoor staff in handling their daily duties, with emphasis on assisting and meeting the needs of

our customers.

In addition, as we draw closer to 1997, Putonghua courses are being offered to management staff.

Video Conference

During the year, KMB has carried out trials on a Video Conference set-up between KMB's Lai Chi Kok

Headquarters and our Shatin Depot. The objective in creating this video conference system is to

investigate the effectiveness of a video link between depots so that meetings can be conducted at our Lai

Chi Kok Headquarters with personnel stationed at our satellite depots. This innovation will save the

management considerable travelling time and enhance the efficiency of all parties concerned. In

particular, our Discipline Officers at Lai Chi Kok can conduct their investigative interviews with the bus

captains stationed at different depots without the need for the bus captains to be away from their operating bases.
