During 1992, the number of air-conditioned buses increased from 372 to 511,comprising 241 double- deck and 270 single-deck buses. This represents 16 percent of the fleet. Air-conditioned buses provide

relatively more comfortable bus rides than non-air-

conditioned buses. In particular, single-deck air- conditioned buses can best serve areas where

demand does not warrant the use of high-capacity-

double-deck buses. There are 55 routes on which only air-conditioned buses are used. There are 44 mixed routes, on which both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses are operated, thus offering passengers the choice between paying a lower fare by travelling in non-air-conditioned buses and

having a more comfortable journey by travelling in air-conditioned buses.

Bus - Rail Integrated Ticketing

An easy-to-use fare collection system is another aspect of the Company's endeavours to provide better services to passengers. In 1989, 87 of our buses were experimentally equipped with machines which accepted the MTRC's Common Stored Value Tickets as an alternative to coins. The system's performance has been satisfactory and another 220 buses were equipped during 1992. Currently,

MTRC, KCRC and the Company are jointly studying the feasibility of replacing the magnetic Common Stored Value Tickets with contactless

Smart Cards, which should be more reliable and

convenient.

一九九二年內,本公司冷氣巴士數目由三百七 十二部增至五百一十一部,包括二百四十一部 雙層巴士及二百七十部單層巴士,佔旗下車隊 數目百分之十六。相對於非冷氣巴士而言,冷 氣巴士可令乘客能較舒適地享用巴士服務,尤 其在若干乘客較稀疏地區,改用單層冷氣巴士 代替載客量較高之雙層巴士更屬最佳選擇 。現 時共有五十五條全以冷氣巴士行走之路線,另 外並有四十四條冷氣巴士與普通巴士兩者兼行 之混合路線,讓乘客可在車費較低之非冷氣巴 士與車程較舒適之冷氣巴士兩者之中自行選 擇。

巴士火車通用車票

簡便的收費系統乃本公司致力提供更佳之乘客 服務。於一九八九年時,本公司為旗下八十七 部巴士試裝可接受地下鐵路通用儲值車票之收 費機,使乘客除硬幣以外多一個付車費之選 擇,試驗結果令人滿意,故一九九二年內已再 有二百二十部巴士裝上同類設備。目前,地下 鐵路、九廣鐵路及本公司正共同研究以更可靠 簡便之無觸點「聰明咭」取代磁性通用儲值車票 之可行性。
