KMB's ongoing commitment to the Hong Kong travelling public is evident in many ways. In this year's Report we highlight two: the growing fleet of modern air-conditioned buses promising a more comfortable, cool ride both now and increasingly widely in the future; and the cross-subsidy of loss- making routes where services deemed socially desirable are maintained by Government directive and the costs absorbed by KMB. Unfortunately, some of these latter routes now seem to be over- serviced. It must be remembered that KMB cannot change the frequency of buses on any route, or alter the type of buses running on it, without the permission
of the Transport Department. Hence the Company is not free of its own accord to simply increase the interval between buses or put smaller buses on unprofitable routes in order to reduce losses.
九巴不斷為香港廣大乘客作出承擔,已從多方面
顯示出來。在本年度年報中,本公司特別強調
兩點:現代化冷氣巴士之車隊陸續增加,使乘客
更感舒適涼快,而冷氣巴士在現今和將來會更為
普遍採用;同時根據政府指示,九巴繼續提供
一些虧本但社會需要之服務性路線,此等路線之
虧損並由九巴以互相補貼來承擔。令人遺憾的
是,有一些路線近期所提供之服務有過剩
現象。必須僅記的是,在未獲運輸署同意前,
九巴是不能改變任何路線之巴士班次,或改變
行走之巴士類型。因此,本公司不能擅自增加
巴士班次之相隔時間,或以較小型之巴士行走無
利潤之路線以減少虧損。
