slab at a suitable level. Some typical plans of housing units are shown in Appendix VIIIB.

Ancillary Accommodation

140. On each floor the access corridor will be a minimum of 6' 0" wide, and there will be play spaces at intervals where staircase and lift units occur, and at junctions on the plan. Accommodation is also to be provided for an Estate Office, porters rooms, and storage in the main blocks, with 'party rooms' in a free-standing pavilion.

Costs

141. The total capital cost of the scheme is estimated at $17,152,640 and the cost per person housed at about $1,382, inclusive of land.

Services

142. Services are available, the foul sewer being in Ma Tau Chung Road, and an 84′′ stormwater drain or nullah in Sung Wong Toi Road, to the north-east.

143. Three forms of water supply are envisaged. The domestic supply of fresh water will be from the mains, with individual block connexions, and independent metering to the flats. Pressures in the area do not permit a supply above the 5th storey, and pumping to roof storage tanks will be arranged. Salt water for flushing will be available, and various types of non-metallic valves and cisterns are being tested for use. There is a certain amount of ground water present, about 12-15' below present site level, and it is believed that about 15,000 gallons of brackish water per day could be obtained from wells (this may, of course, decline as adjoining areas are built up). It is proposed to pump this water to storage tanks, and pipe it to strategic positions for use in washing down corridors, staircases, public spaces, and for gardening.

144.

A site has been agreed with the China Light & Power Co. for an electricity sub-station to supply the estate. Groups of meters for domestic supply have been arranged on each floor, in lobbies.

145. The layout and width of carriageways has been provisionally agreed with the P.W.D. It is not yet certain if a bus bay will be required, although space is available for it if necessary: one traffic entrance only is planned to the estate, and there will be no through roads.

Refuse Chutes

146. Refuse collection by means of Urban Services Department vehicles equipped to use a 20 cu. ft. bin has been planned, and tests are
