60 Redirection

of redirected parcel, see below. The services may be continued for an additional 12 months on payment of a fee of $5.00 for each name recorded. After 15 months the record of removal necessary for the operation of the service will be maintained only so long as an annual fee of $10.00 for each name recorded is paid. One fee only is charged in respect of the various members of one family removing to one address and bearing the same surname.

Notices of removal and applications for redirection must be signed by the persons to whom any postal packets to be redirected are addressed, and should be sent to the local delivery office serving the old address. When possible the printed forms which can be obtained from any post office should be used, and the Post Office may require this to be done.

The Post Office does not undertake to redirect postal packets which can be redirected at the place of address. It does not, for example, redirect postal packets addressed to a person who has temporarily left his house, unless the house is left uninhabited; or addressed to clubs, hotels, boarding houses or lodgings; or addressed to any premises occupied by two or more persons where the letters are delivered by postmen into a common letter-box or to a common agent.

The Post Office reserves the right to decline redirection in any case and to discontinue redirection at any time.

PARCELS

Except for certain parts of Hong Kong Island, parcels addressed to the Colony are not delivered but a notice of arrival is sent to the addressee.. This notice may be redirected to the same addressee at another address in the Colony free of charge. A parcel redirected from one country to another is charged the full postage. Customs charges upon redirected parcels. In most cases customs charges raised in a country abroad are cancelled on the redirection of a parcel to another country; but there are certain exceptions, see paragraph under Non-delivery.

Insured parcels. When an insured parcel is redirected from one country to another, a further insurance fee becomes payable for each transmission. If the fees are not prepaid they are collected from the addressee on delivery.
