The following information should be given if the order has been posted:-
1. The name and address of sender;
2. The name and address of addressee;
3. The date, hour and exact place of posting.
4.
The nature of the packet, and the amount of postage paid;
5.
Whether the whole packet or only the postal order is missing. If the cover of the packet reached the addressee it should be produced;
6.
Whether the name of the payee was filled in the order;
7. Whether the name of the office of payment was filled in on the order;
8.
Whether the order was crossed for payment through a bank.
Investigations can be undertaken only if the counterfoil is produced.
POSTAL NOTES AND POSTAL ORDERS ISSUED OVERSEAS
Postal notes or postal orders of British Commonwealth issue, other than British postal orders and those issued in the Irish Republic, are not payable in the Colony.
POSTAGE STAMPS IN EXTENSION OF VALUE
Great Britain :
The value of a postal order may be increased by affixing current British postage stamps not exceeding two in number as follows. (1) Up to the value of 5d. to orders of denominations up to and including 4s. 6d. (2) Up to the value of 11d. to orders of denominations above 4s. 6d. No payment can, however, be made for stamps not affixed in the spaces provided or for odd halfpence. Stamps cut out of envelopes, postcards and so on, or perforated with initials or marks cannot be used on postal orders.

Irish Republic:
The value of a postal order issued in the Irish Republic may be increased by affixing postage stamps issued in the Irish Republic not exceeding three in number as follows:-
1. Up to the value of 5d. to orders of 6d. denomination ;
2.
Up to the value of 11d. to orders of all other denominations.
PERIOD OF VALIDITY
If an order issued in the Irish Republic is not paid within three months from the last day of the month of issue a commission equal to the original poundage will be charged before payment of the order can be made. If an order is not presented for payment within six months from the last day of the month of issue, it should be sent to the Accountant, Department of Posts and Telegraphs, Dublin, Irish Republic, with a request for payment at some specified office.
Other Countries :
In other countries in which British postal orders are issued postage stamps of the country of issue may be affixed to increase the value of an order up to the same amount (or its equivalent) as in the Hong Kong Service except in the case of postage stamps of the following countries: Ascension, Gilbert and Ellice Islands, St. Helena and Niue Island (Savage).
