Declarations must bear the actual signature of the sender or his deputy and must show the current value of the finished articles in the open market at the time of despatch.
Prohibitions: Letters; articles produced by prison labour; charged butane gas lighters and refills (uncharged lighters are admitted); honey; trade spirits. Restrictions apply to the importation of: Firearms; medicines and drugs; ostrich feathers; plants, roots, seeds and bulbs; viruses, vaccines and serums.
The name and formula or composition of all medicines should be clearly indicated in English on the container.
Import Licences are required for certain classes of goods.
Address: The address on parcels and trade charge cards must include the words Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland.
Route: The route must be indicated on the parcel and trade charge cards, if any. Packing and marking: Waterproof covers should be used for parcels for places not on the railway, especially during October to May inclusive. Parcels for Southern Rhodesia containing articles made wholly or partly of celluloid must bear a label clearly marked Celluloid.
Wharfage dues payable by the addressees of the parcels may be levied in South Africa on parcels forwarded via Capetown,
Preferential Tariffs apply under certain conditions to British goods. Enquiries should be addressed to Commerce and Industry Department,
Compensation is not payable.
Delivery: Addressees are notified of arrival of parcels and are required to arrange for their collection.
