Customs declaration and language: Three non-adhesive forms and despatch note. Prohibitions: Letters; arms; gaming appliances. The importation of many other classes of goods into Ecuador is prohibited.
Restrictions apply to the importation of: Alcoholic beverages; cigarette paper; cotton goods; manufactured or leaf tobacco; pharmaceutical products; plants and seeds. A certificate of disinfection and a statement giving details of the contents must accompany all parcels containing used clothing. Import licences are required for all goods.
Gift parcels Gifts are regarded in the same way as commercial consignments, i.e. customs duties are normally levied on the contents and many goods are prohibited. An import licence is not required if the value of the parcel does not exceed 40 U.S. dollars.
Invoice : A consular invoice should be sent separately by letter post to the addressee for every parcel or consignment of parcels for one addressee, of which the value exceeds 40 U.S. dollars or its equivalent in sucres at the official rate of exchange, sent from a place in which an Ecuadorean consular officer is resident; otherwise a fine is imposed by the Ecuadorean authorities. For parcels containing goods of value below 40 U.S. dollars or its equivalent in sucres, the importers have to pay in the Customs an amount equivalent to the consular fees. Commercial parcels are liable to confiscation unless the addressee holds an import permit from the Central Bank (of Ecuador).
Charges: Charges for inland conveyance are collected from the addressces, except at Bahia, Esmeraldas, Guayaquil and Manta.
