Customs declaration : One adhesive form.

Declarations on parcels containing cotton blankets, boots or shoes of rubber and canvas, jerseys, shirts, singlets, socks, stockings and so on, should show the number of articles or pairs enclosed. If piece-goods of cotton or of artificial silk or admixtures thereof are enclosed, the square yardage should be indicated. Prohibitions: Letters except one for the addressee; trade and immature spirits. Kenya only all kinds of air guns, safety, toy and alarm pistols, or other articles having the appearance of, or capable of conversion into, lethal weapons, firearms and essential parts of firearms e.g. barrels, all actions, bolts and bolt housings, safety nuts firing pins and springs, triggers and springs, safety catches, stocks ready or half cut and those magazine which are fixed to the action.

Restrictions apply to the importation of: Accoutrements, uniforms or clothing which when worn may give the impression that the wearer is in Government employment; fresh fruit; plants and seeds; publications dealing with marriage or birth control; rat virus; secondhand clothing and bedding imported for sale; unmanufactured gold, silver and metal of the platinoid groups. Arms and ammuni- tion of all kinds and parts thereof including air guns, safety, toy and alarm pistols, or other articles having the appearance of, or capable of conversion into, lethal weapons may be admitted to Uganda only against permit and the sender should ascertain before despatch that any necessary permit has been obtained by the addressee,

Invoice: A commercial invoice on the approved invoice form dated and signed by the sender, must be enclosed in every parcel containing goods for re-sale and the parcel should be marked on the address side Invoice enclosed. Exceptionally where a number of parcels are posted on any one day by the same sender to the same addressee, the sender should number the parcels 1, 2, 3, etc., and the invoice should be enclosed in parcel No. 1; the remaining parcels should be endorsed Invoice enclosed in parcel No. 1.

Import licences are required for certain classes of goods; licences, obtainable from the Imports Controller, Department of Trade and Supplies, PO Box 1567, Nairobi, Kenya, or the Director of Commerce, PO Box 1331, Kampala, Uganda, are required for goods imported by traders for re-sale.

Packing and marking: Parcels should be very strongly packed, preferably in waterproof material. Those containing films must bear a white label clearly marked Films in black letters.

Delivery: Addressees are notified of arrival of parcels and are required to arrange for their collection. All parcels should include in the address a P.O. Box or Private Bag number.
