Import licences: A licence, to be obtained by the addressees in advance, is required for importation into Ceylon by post of certain articles.

Invoice: An invoice should be enclosed in each commercial parcel and the cover noted Invoice Enclosed.

Preferential Tariffs apply under certain conditions to British goods. Enquiries should be addressed to Department of Commerce and Industry.

Compensation is not payable for damage to fragile or perishable articles. Delivery: Parcels with an insured value of more than Rs. 250 or a Trade Charge value of more than Rs. 25 are not delivered but must be collected from the Post Office by the addressees who are notified of their arrival.

Route: Correspondence is forwarded to Mauritius to await an opportunity for despatch to the islands where delivery is effected by the Manager of the Islands. Opportunities for onward despatch from Mauritius usually occur about three times a year.

Route: Parcels are forwarded to Mauritius where they are delivered to the Agents of the Chagos Islands for onward transmission and delivery to the addressees. Opportunities for onward transmission from Mauritius usually occur about three times a year.
