POSTAGE: AIR MAIL

Full particulars of the services available to the various countries and the fees payable are shown in the Air Mail services list. No information can be furnished by the Post Office as to whether a particular unit or ship can be reached by air and it must rest with the sender to decide whether or not to pay the postage appropriate to air mail transmission. For rates of air mail postage which should be paid for certain forces addresses, see Section II of this Guide, after Zanzibar). The overall transmis- sion time to the addressee may, however, be longer than for civilian correspondence and parcels in view of the increased difficulties of distribution.

REGISTRATION

Members of H.M. Forces using a Force or Command address

Letters, and 2nd class air mails accepted for registration under the general conditions of registration in the British Commonwealth and Foreign Post, that is, a registration fee of 40c. must be paid in addition to the postage, and the maximum compensation payable to the sender in the event of loss will be HK$46. No advice of delivery can be obtained. Inquiries concerning registered letters which have not been delivered must be made by means of form P64 on payment of the usual fee. There is no registration service to British Army (or Forces) Post Offices 75, 76, 100, 101, 102, 103 and 104.

PARCELS

OTHER OVERSEAS STATIONS

There is no special address for correspondence and parcels for wives and families of H.M. Forces stationed with their serving relatives other than in Germany. A civilian address should be used and postage rates will be the same as the civilian rates to the countries concerned.

Members of H.M. Forces using a civil form of address

Except as regards postage, correspondence and parcels for H.M. Forces using a civil form of address are subject to the same general conditions as correspondence and parcels for civilians in the same countries and, unless and until notice to the contrary is given any postal facilities open to civilians, including insurance, are also available under the same conditions to the Forces.

In the case of parcels for Forces using a civil form of address the ordinary civilian types of customs declarations (and despatch note where necessary) are required.

GERMANY

CORRESPONDENCE AND PARCELS FOR WIVES AND FAMILIES OF H.M. FORCES STATIONED WITH THEIR SERVING RELATIVES OVERSEAS

Correspondence, including parcels, may be sent under the conditions shown below to wives and families who have been permitted to join their relatives serving with H.M. Forces in Germany.

METHOD OF ADDRESS

H.M. Army and R.A.F. families. Correspondence should be addressed as follows :-

1.

Name of actual addressee.

2.

c/o Army or Air Force number (in the case of Other Ranks only) Rank and Name of serving husband or relative.

3.

Squadron, battery, company, or other section of the unit.

4. Designation of unit in full.
