An insured letter containing documents which are valuable because of the cost of preparation (for example, plans, estimates or contracts) may not be insured for an amount exceeding the cost of replacing them in case of loss. insurance is an obstacle to compensation.

ADVICE OF DELIVERY OR ENQUIRIES ABOUT LOSS OR NON-DELIVERY
An advice of delivery can be obtained under the same conditions as those applicable to registered articles, see page 44. One fee of 30c. covers inquiries concerning several packets of the same category (insured letter, box or parcel) posted at the same time by the same sender to the same address.
INSURED LETTERS: SPECIAL CONDITIONS
In addition to ordinary correspondence, they may contain paper valuables such as bank notes, currency notes, bonds and securities, also documents of any kind such as plans, estimates, and so on; but if the contents are dutiable in the country of destination they can only be sent to countries which admit dutiable articles by letter post, see page 22. Letters containing articles other than those men- tioned above, postcards, small packets, printed papers, commercial papers and samples cannot be insured.
Before posting bank notes, currency notes and so on, the sender should make sure that the Exchange Control Regulations are complied with, as failure to do so in this respect may lead to a return or confiscation of the article, see page 31.
INSURED BOXES: SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Articles of gold and silver, precious stones, jewellery and other articles of a like nature, which are prohibited from transmission in insured letters, may be sent in insured boxes to the places shown as participating in the service in the table commencing on page 58 insured up to the maximum indicated.
Insured boxes may not contain letters, notes or documents having the character of actual personal correspondence, bank notes, currency notes, or securities payable to bearer, but an open invoice in its simplest form as well as the sender's and the addressee's name and address, may be enclosed.
RATE OF POSTAGE
The postage rate is $1.50 for the first 10 ounces, thereafter 30c. for each 2 ounces or part of 2 ounces. The regular insurance fee must be paid in addition to the postage.
