INCOMING PARCELS
When a cash on delivery parcel is received in Hong Kong a notice of its arrival stating the amount due will be sent to the addressee, and the parcel will be kept at the General Post Office to be called for. It will be held at the disposal of the addressee for 15 days, exclusive of the day of arrival, before being treated as undeliverable, unless it has been marked by the sender for delivery to a second address in the event of its proving to be undeliverable to the original addressee. In the latter case the parcel will be held at the disposal of the first addressee for a period of 15 days, and, if delivery is not effected within that period, the parcel will then be offered to the second addressee and held at his disposal for a period of six days before being treated as finally undeliverable.
A cash on delivery parcel will not be given up or be allowed to be opened by the addressee until the amount of the trade charge and any other charges due have been paid.
No receipt for a trade charge is given. When the trade charge has been collected, the Post Office undertakes the responsibility of re- mitting the amount to the sender of the parcel; and, therefore, a trade charge, once collected, is in no circumstances refunded to the addressee.
Parcels on which trade charges are to be collected will, in other respects than those above specified, be treated like other parcels, i.e. as regards insurance and compensation.
