Permission to remit money orders outside the scheduled territories (formerly known as the sterling area) must be obtained from the Exchange Control Office.

COMMISSION

The commission on a single money order payable in Hong Kong is 10 cents for each $10.00 or part of $10.00.

The Commission on a single money order payable overseas is 15 cents for each $10.00 or part of $10.00.

PURCHASE

A printed application form supplied for the purchase of orders is obtainable at the Money Order Office, G.P.O., Hong Kong. The full name, title and designation of the sender and the payee should be entered on the form; if the order is to be made payable to an Asiatic the full name and address in the vernacular must also be furnished on a slip obtainable at the money order office.

CROSSING

The sender of a money order to a British Commonwealth country, other than Aden, India or Pakistan, may indicate on the requisition form that the order is to be crossed for payment through a bank. Orders payable in foreign countries may not be crossed.

ADVICE OF PAYMENT

For a supplementary fee of 30 cents, payable either at the time of issue or subsequently, the sender of a money order payable in any of the countries indicated by the letters AP in the table on page 204 will be furnished with the date of payment of the order.

TRANSMISSION OF REMITTANCE

A certificate of issue (for retention as a receipt) is handed to the purchaser. Payment is effected by means of a money order made out in the country of payment. Particulars are transmitted to the postal administration concerned by airmail without extra charge where such means offers appreciable advantage.

PAYMENT ABROAD

Orders are paid in the currency of the country of payment and pay- ment is subject to the regulations of that country.

The rates of conversion for payment are subject to variations from day to day. As the rates are liable to variation without notice, there is no guarantee that any given rate will be applied to the conversion of the order.
