REMITTANCE SERVICES

The remittance services of the Post Office provide a convenient means of transmitting sums of money by post.

The services embrace two types of remittance: the postal order, which is available in certain fixed values, and the money order, which can be drawn for any sum up to an authorised limit.

POSTAL ORDERS

SCOPE OF SERVICE

British Postal Orders are issued and paid in most countries within the British Commonwealth and in certain other countries. The countries concerned are indicated by the letters P O in the third column of the table at page 204 which gives the special conditions affecting each country.

Payment is made in the currency of the country of payment at the equivalent value of the British currency.

Under the Exchange Control Regulations postal orders may not be sent to any place outside the Scheduled Territories (formerly known as the Sterling Area) which comprise the British Commonwealth (except Canada and Newfoundland), Burma, Iceland and Iraq.

VALUE AND POUNDAGE

Postal orders for 6d., 1/-, 1/6, 2/-, 2/6, 3/-, 4/-, 5/-, 10/-, 15/-, 20/-, 21/- and 40/- may be purchased at the General Post Office, Hong Kong and the Kowloon Post Office at prices which include poundage and commission.
